Moving & Shaking– sort of
2020 is flying by. And thank goodness for that. This has been one strange year! It is now early July. We have 3 or 4 weeks to prepare for the new building crew. We finish up repairs and upgrades to the outhouse, paint the lumber that will become trim on the garage, bury the overhead wires that cross the road from the power pole to the house and hire the local excavator — who has become a friend — to bury 13 4-foot cement piers that will support the porch and roof extension.
The goal for our crew is to prepare the house for winter and everything that that includes. Our first priority is to get a roof on the addition, garage, and the house, even though certain types of lumber are sporadically difficult to find. The GC (general contractor) has resources, so we will be able to proceed with the front and back porches. Windows and doors have been ordered for the sunroom. And we have chosen indoor projects to accommodate the occasional rain day: building stairs from the larder down to the cellar, building the loft that connects the second floor of the house to the second floor of the garage. Depending on time and availability of the GC and his crew, we would love to get siding on; this is a big, expensive piece of the puzzle, we’re crossing our fingers on that one but it will most likely have to wait until next season.
The GC and his crew arrive. Kevlar-toe boots, tool belts, and some serious saws. They are professional and experienced. And they are a team. This could be good!
